Hold onto yourselves; I’m about to wax eloquent over a pan. I can see you shaking your heads… and while this post is much more suited to the other blog, I thought I’d mix things up. Please bear with me and maybe later I’ll have Bree walking into osama’s cave with a bomb in her mouth. You never know. She throws almost as good as she fetches.

I’m really tough on pans because I don’t care for them properly. They get scratched, bent, broken and just generally end up looking like Leonidas’ body armor.
AND, while some cheap pans are really good and last for years, the last two I purchased are already at the Broward county dump. So, when I ran across the ‘kitchen essentials’ Calphalon pans at Target, I bought not only the 12″ fryer but the 2 quart saucepan. That’s pretty much all I use unless I’m steaming veggies.
My hopes were not high, partly because I’d spent a small fortune on a Calphalon in ‘95 and though it lasted for 10 years it was a constant irritant. I couldn’t toss it because I’d spent too much on it, you see.
So, anyway, I love this pan. Truly nonstick, it’s already saved me from charring dinner twice. I also love the design; the sloping sides mean I can do other things besides fry… It would even make a good paella pan or modified wok. The lid is cut inward and forces liquids back onto the food.
If I can only keep from destroying it… there are already a couple of careless scratches…
The saucepan I haven’t used as much but I can tell you that it does oatmeal really well…

You know I love me some Target…I’ll look for this next time I go. I keep telling hubby we should get a new pan, with a lid, just like this one. We have a pretty good one we got at IKEA, but it’s scratched up already.

Do you use rubber cooking utensils? Maybe that will minimize the scratching…
