Everyone is waiting for Governor Palin’s speech tonight and subsequently Senator McCain’s on Thursday evening… but after Fred Thompson’s breeks caught fire last night, how much more do we need to hear? Where was that Fred when we were chanting ‘Run, Fred, Run!’?

Last night was such a contrast between what has been and what could be; what we want and what we will actually receive. America’s been blessed with President George W. Bush, though I suspect most of us don’t understand or appreciate that fact yet. And while we want the ass kicking war hero and the gun totin’ moose hunter in the White House… What we’ll get will be only some of that. We’ll also get the guy who is accustomed to crossing the aisle, who maintains friendships with people of both parties. And the woman who roils the mainstream media to depths previously unseen outside serial killers.

I expect to like Palin’s speech tonight; she isn’t going to change because her family has become a prime media target. She doesn’t strike me as someone who shrinks from either responsibility or controversy.

We can’t wait.
