This is from one of the crinum lily bulbs sis-in-law shipped over from Houston. She told me that they would surprise and delight, but I’d no idea it would happen so fast.
See, this guy shouldn’t be opening. No way, no how. When I received the box late one afternoon all I wanted to do was get them in the ground, so I carried them out back and started planting. I was in such a hurry that I put this guy in the ground upside down. And it’s not even a plant in its own right… but a broken bit off one of the large stalks!
So by the time I discovered this, it had been about a week. I took it out of the ground and turned it upside down, expecting it to die, since it wasn’t attached to it’s mom.
But instead, it started opening! Pretty cool, eh?
This is what it looked like after I’d discovered my mistake:

I’m one of those people who needs a GPS to find my way around a garden, so if these things live, they can stay. If not… well, she said they’re hard to kill… guess she’s right!

It is officially MY DAY! I’m going to the gun range to celebrate.

Why does your dirt look so dirty???
