Newly released Vista SP1 will not work with some chipsets.

The affected chipset is Intel’s 945G Express series, which is used in computers from virtually all major system vendors. It’s also found on standalone motherboards sold by Asus.

Other systems running Vista will not be upgradeable to Service Pack 1 if they are running certain drivers, including intel display drivers.

Other problems are reportedly arising from installation of SP1, such as hard drives disappearing from view.

The joke is not on those who were waiting for the release of SP1 before buying a PC or updating to Vista. It’s Microsoft who has egg on their collective faces once again. Re-commence ‘wait and see’ attitude.
