Planted question from the November 15th Democratic debate:
It seems that many political commentators such as Lou Dobbs are guiding the debate and strongly shaping U.S. policy on immigration by insinuating a linkage to terrorism. As many people know, no terrorist has come from our southern border. Do you consider fighting terrorism and slowing the flow of illegal immigration coming from our southern border as intrinsically related issues?
The reality is that we don’t know who might be strolling across the border or their original point of origin… and we probably don’t know where all the sleeper cells are staged here in the United States.
An investigation by the U.S. Government Accountability Office shows that people are simply walking across the border unimpeded.
A video made during an investigation by the U.S. Government Accountability Office shows a stream of Mexicans strolling through the border into the U.S. as federal Custom and Border Patrol agents sit staring at “information on computer screens.”
On another of the videos recorded at eight entry points across the country, an agent was reportedly waving aliens through the lane without “looking at them, making verbal contact or inspecting travel documents.”
Any fool can see that our open borders are a gross breach in national security. And while there is no ‘easy fix’ SOMEone in our government better start doing SOMEthing about it.

Generally I don’t wear my political heart on my sleeve, but I will say this: There is a striking disparity between the fiery rhetoric from the likes of Lou Dobbs (whom I recently bumped into in New York, puffing away on a cigarette in front of the Four Seasons) and the visible reality.
Here in southern California, there’s a palpable attitude of tolerance of illegal immigrants from Mexico; you might even say it feels welcoming for them. I’m not saying that’s MY viewpoint, but that’s how it is here, which is in direct contrast to the stance of most of our politicians.
That said, this part of the world is one of the most beautiful, relaxed, and comfortable part of the world I’ve known (and I’ve gotten around, let me tell ya), so I don’t know how much this ‘liberal’ viewpoint viz. the border is hurting us.
