Hubby is turning ::wait for it:: 59 on the 16th. For a man who used to be very active, the past 5 years of desk work have taken their toll, and I’m worried about him. He just had a full physical, including chest x-ray, and the doc says he’s fine…. “for his age”. Heh.
It’s just so easy for him to transfer from work computer chair to truck seat to home computer chair… I remember what my friend A told me many years ago: “It’s simple physics. A body in motion tends to stay in motion; a body at rest tends to stay at rest”.
So, starting this past Monday I put Arthur on a mini workout schedule after he arrives home at night. Nothing too strenuous at first; I just want 30 minutes of his day. 15 for low impact cardio, whether that may be walking, b-ball, dancing, rowing, various sexual positions… [a win-win situation] then 10 minutes to work a specific muscle group, 5 for tummy work and a little stretching.
For him, this is enough to start.
Yesterday he decided on walking for his cardio, and in an attempt to separate him from his work mentality and accompanying paraphernalia I insisted he leave his keys at home. He put up a good fight, but I won and he dropped the gob of keys on the counter with a frown and a sigh designed to let me know exactly what he thought about the entire ordeal. “No cell phone?” “No.” “No pager?” “NO. You need to put work out of your mind. Be at peace with yourself and your environment. Be zen-like…” I grabbed a key from the kitchen drawer on the way out, not realizing it was silver instead of gold…
Yes, I locked us out. The look that man gave me could’ve frozen vodka. Horrified, I laughed. I always do that; I started laughing at funerals as a small child, and though I can control it now they still seem absurd in a weird way…
Anyway, he got the door open with my gardening tools and I threw away the silver key, bagged the proper key… and we proceeded to walk.
He didn’t feel the need to grab his keys, which I take as a sign that I’ve been forgiven. Heh Heh…

We keep a secret key outside for just such emergencies.
Guess it’s not secret anymore :-(
