Teresa tagged me for this meme, a first! Usually people just leave me alone.

1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:

Roughly 20. The oldest: Lady & the Tramp.

2) The last film I bought:

Spiderman2 - I think.

3) The last film I watched:

Shrek2, yesterday.

4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order):

These are all movies I can -and have- watched over and over.
Escapism is the order of the day…

tps‘The Philadelphia Story’ - Elegant prose eloquently brought to life by some of the best actors on the planet; Hepburn, Grant & Stewart. Simple enough a child could understand the implied understory and twists. Like the Thin Man series, which I also love, love, love. It doesn’t pander, but is what it is and expects you to keep up.
Katherine Hepburn also shines in ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ and the flippant ‘Desk Set’, both of which I love, but ‘Philadelphia’, to me, is one of her best roles.

I also love Emma Thompson, and it’s torture to pick one of her films… I mean, ‘Peter’s Friends’… ‘Much Ado’… C’mon people! But. ‘Sense and Sensibility‘ it is; a film that can stand against any other Austen. And, of course I could slurp up Hugh Grant like the last melting ice cream in August.
Likewise ‘Emma‘, starring Gwyneth Paltrow. I am glad to have read the book first, though.

tqm‘The Quiet Man’ - I love each John Wayne movie for its own merits [McLintock!, In Harm's Way, etc...], but this is my favorite. Each time I’m transported into Inisfree I want to stay. There’s something about a movie that so warmly lays out the welcome mat… Again, the acting was superb, with the Irish countryside taking a leading role.

Anything with Doris Day and Rock Hudson… or Cary Grant. I’m a little girl again, believing that anything is possible, especially if one dresses just right and sighs on cue. Oh! And don’t forget the sloshed maid.
When ‘Down With Love‘ was released, spoofing the genre, I hated it immediately for its obviousness. But after watching it a few times I have grown very fond of it as a sort of quirky tribute.
I do have one suggestion for Renee, who just landed her own husband: Honey, you didn’t do it pursing those lips. Please don’t let me see you attempt that again.

tbc‘The Birdcage’ - Throw into one pot: Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman and Hank Azaria. Stir. Stand back. Even without the superb writing, it couldn’t lose, really. I’ve seen it many, many times and each time I laugh harder. Weird. “Agador Spartacus” indeed.

Moonstruck‘ - Don’t ask. It enchanted me, a freckled Texan peering into another world. The cast transcended an already excellent screenplay and lifted a film into art. [And I broke into a sweat over Nick Cage.] In one word: lovely.

I went over 5, didn’t I…? Well, crap; how can one possibly pick 5 out of thousands? I went over to Bou’s to see if she’d done this yet and saw The Princess Bride! How could I have forgotten to list one of the best movies ever made? Arrgghhh…
