Not all creativity is expressed in the written word, but since that happens to be my favorite format I think of the bloggers I visit regularly as writers. Not just blogs, but novels, tech manuals, screenplays, etc… I’ve always done it. Hey, some bloggers really have written books, like Steve.
Forewarned is forearmed; I may be talking about you! Please don’t take offense, because none is meant; it’s all in fun. So, picked at random:
SISU Sissy is an intelligent philosopher. She reminds me of a dear friend that I miss so much. He always kept me thinking; on my toes, reaching to understand just a bit more than I do… and so does she.
Political punditry is only a part of what passes across her screen. Sissy writes a column for a major newspaper and a series of nonfiction, a la Coulter.
A Likely Story No matter what Rae writes, it never takes her long to strike the heart of the matter. Rae writes Inspirational books. Something akin to the Chicken Soup books yet not as formulatic.
Espresso Sarcasm I see sitcom writer, getting picked up by Letterman to do his Top 10s. Norman, yours are just better.
Cripes, Suzette ‘Middle Aged Cool’, indeed. I’ve been reading ‘Suzette’ since Bob The Corgi. She pens a column for the Living section of her local paper and in her spare time goes on to write a book -something between Bombeck and Steinbeck, combining that ever sharp wit with her love and knowledge of Americana.
Everyday Stranger Helen is one of those bloggers who actually has written a book: her blog is an autobiography. As I’ve said a hundred times: “I’d buy it”. Just print it out, staple it together and people will fall all over themselves to get to it.
The highest highs, the lowest lows and life sticking out like so many flailing arms and legs in between the pages… Jackie O’s bio wasn’t this good. The best part? It’s far from finished. This book will go on for many years to come, and hopefully we’ll still be privy to her ongoing story.
Technicalities Though she has the ability to run a strong rant through the middle, Teresa is the author of a technical manual that encompasses everything from Firefox to firewalls and makes you smile at that penguin. Don’t poo-poo the tech people, or nothing you rely on will work anymore, dammit. Not saying she’s a geek, just really good at… well, seemingly everything.
Velociworld In making more than one reference to Pat Conroy over the last two years, I’ve lumped Velocidude in with the novelists. He goes from benevolent silliness to wit sharp enough to slice steel in the blink of an eye; or so it seems. Is that a southern drawl I detect, or perhaps a northern chill? I don’t care what it is, I voted for him every damn day. His screenplay will be turned into a multibillion dollar epic and he will win an Academy Award. So, there.
Madfish Willie’s Cyber Saloon The Bartender’s Party guide. “How to make one can of Reddi-Wip last for 2 weeks”. ‘Nuff said.
Bad Example Harvey’s the editor. Though he does his fair share of writing in his daily editor’s column, his real job is to pull us all together and make us better. How many bloggers just starting out have seen Harv at their place? Commenting, encouraging. Picking at. Whatever, it’s all good. ![]()
Sometimes he seems to be everywhere at once, which is the hallmark of any good editor. That, and judicious use of his power. Harv’s the best.
A Collection of Thoughts Jen’s column appears in Stars and Stripes [remember, this is my version] where she can show support for the troops and feature their writings. Not afraid to shy away from sensitive material, you can count on Jennifer to tell it like it is, was and always shall be. That’s why I like her.
Contemplation Stu writes the “Eating Out in Northwest Houston” column for the Chronicle. That one was too easy.
Babalu Blog Val is busy writing a genealogical column for the Miami Herald. Picked up by Scribner, the coming nonfiction book will be both a compilation of his column and personal memories. Hopefully he will soon write an obituary for dictator fidel castro entitled ‘Rot in Hell, Asshole’.
Argghhh! Okay, like you didn’t know this one was coming… John writes technical manuals with lots of pictures for clarification purposes. I can’t help it. He’s analytical and explains things well, even to those of us who have never been near alot of ordnance. His new partner Dusty is just as good, and would write more except he’s been tinkering with those newfangled flying machines.
Key Issues Key is busy writing a how-to for hapless foster parents while simultaneously keeping her advice column going. She is very, very busy, yet never overwhelmed to the point of madness. How does she do it?!
Boudicca’s Voice Bou is writing a book; partly autobiographical, on “how to do it all with style” [Just a working title].
She’s the mother, sister, friend, daughter, wife and employee we all want, and can kick your ass to boot. A modern woman who feels her ancient roots, her not-yet-finished book is already under scrutiny by Warner Brothers, who may option it. Stay tuned.
e-Biscuit Claire, in brand new digs, by the way, can drop that “simple tootsie from the country” crap. Comfortable writing about politics, religion and everything in between, Claire has been commissioned by the Bush administration to… Oh, wait. I can’t tell you. Well, I could, but then I’d have to kill you.
Ambient Irony For a vast number of us, Pixy is our Publisher, making our way of life possible . As such, he’s behind the scenes quite a bit, like the Wizard of Oz. Do publishers write? Of course. There are the quarterlys, the 10Qs. Oh, the annual reports for the stockholders. Oh, my. Then….
Well, you get the gist of the thing. There are so many more… but it’s a new year and I have to start reading!

I am humbled. Thank you, dear, and Happy New Year.
