McDonald’s is caving into PETA’s request for a more “humane” way of killing its chickens.
The fast-food giant said it is studying the possibility of “controlled atmosphere killing,” in which chickens are put to sleep with an inert gas, such as nitrogen or argon.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for animal welfare. I prefer to think of the animals I consume going gently into that good night, not being thrown violently, still alive, into a chopping machine. Not that that’s much different than how we did it down on the farm, either chopping their heads off or wringing their necks.
Neither ever stopped me from eating chicken. Heh.
But McDonald’s doesn’t even use the ‘chopping’ method, preferring instead death by wired water:
It would replace a slaughtering process in which chickens are hung by their legs on a moving conveyor line and pulled through an electrified vat of water.
What’s wrong with that method? It seems quick and painless. Unless the pain is that felt by the PETA people - who don’t even eat McNuggets - thinking of how their dinner died.
My only thought: Is the meat more tender if the chickens are relaxed when they expire?
I’ll say it once again: chickens are dirty and stupid. If it’s politically correct to kill them easier than convicted killers, then something is fucking wrong.

I’m with you all the way on the PC stuff. And not wanting the animals to suffer — making animals suffer is just wrong.
*But* I gotta say, *my* chickens are smart, funny, loyal and don’t poop any more than anyone else around here… and I’ve got no snails, few earwigs and other bugz and just enough really good eggs!
I’m just sayin’
